Frequently asked questions

What does respite care mean?

Respite care is a temporary service designed to give caregivers a break or support individuals needing short-term care. It can be provided in a residential setting for a few days or weeks, and there are options for emergency respite care if immediate assistance is required. Respite care is a valuable service for families who may need help managing their loved one's care during challenging times.

What is the difference between residential care and respite care?

Residential care refers to long-term, ongoing support for permanent residents who need help with daily activities and medical care. On the other hand, respite care is a temporary service that provides relief to primary caregivers, either for a short break or during an emergency situation. For those needing immediate care, emergency residential respite care is available to assist families.

Who is respite care best suited for?

Respite care is ideal for individuals who need short-term support, such as after an illness or surgery, or to give caregivers a break. It can also be accessed in urgent situations through emergency respite services. Those not yet ready for permanent residential aged care but still need temporary care can also access residential respite care to suit their needs. Respite care costs vary based on the stay length and the services required.

When should I use respite care?

Respite care is a practical and helpful solution if you are recovering from an illness or injury and require additional support. Sometimes, carers just need a short break, which is where we come in.

What is the difference between respite care and the respite day program?

Respite care refers to short stays in our homes. The respite day program is available for those looking to experience our communities before either joining for respite care or looking for long-term residential care. It's a non-committal way for elderly people to experience our aged care residences.

What do I need to bring?

  • Current medication, medication charts, spare scripts, medical diagnosis
  • Clothing should be clearly labelled (or else we can arrange labels for you)
  • Toiletries
  • Details for any cultural requirements
  • Personal items to assist in making your room personalised
  • Completed paperwork, as required

Can I have visitors?

Of course! MACG is your home away from home—you can have your friends and family over whenever you like. We have tea, coffee, and some snacks available, and if you'd like to have a guest for dinner, you'll just need to let your care team know in advance.

What health services are available?

We have partnered with allied health professionals. Services range from remedial massage and occupational therapy to dentists, optometrists, and geriatricians. When you stay with us, you must pay out of pocket for these services.

Can you cater for my dietary requirements?

Yes, we will provide a dietitian-approved meal plan with suits your needs during your stay. All food is cooked on-site by our professional catering team.
